About Calcium Hydroxide/ Hydrated Lime/ Slaked Lime
"Calcium Hydroxide", having CAS-No: 1305-62-0, and traditionally being called hydrated lime or slaked lime, is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula as Ca(OH)2. It is free flowing super fine super white powder, free from grits & other contaminations and is obtained when calcium oxide (quicklime) is "slaked" with water, to form "Hydrated Lime". Calcium Hydroxide is used in a wide variety of traditional & emerging applications, because of its chemical & physical properties. These are high quality optimum products, compliant to various compendiums, being diligently processed under good manufacturing practices. These products are free from all known allergens and do not contain any prohibitory or toxic chemicals or non-kosher ingredients. The usual shelf life of the product is three to six months from the date of manufacturing of batch. This grade of Calcium Hydroxide shall be compliant to the core specifications & requirement of the American Chemical Society.

Versatile Industrial and Agricultural UsesCalcium Hydroxide is widely employed in various industries due to its high purity, strong alkalinity, and safety profile. It serves as a crucial flocculant in water treatment, enhances soil properties in agriculture, acts as a disinfectant, and is integral in making mortars, plasters, and whitewash in construction. Its stability under normal conditions and easy handling make it an essential component in modern industry.
Chemical and Physical PropertiesWith a typical particle size ranging from 150-300 mesh, Calcium Hydroxide has a bulk density of 0.5-0.7 g/cm3 and contains less than 1.0% moisture. Its saturated water solution reaches a pH of around 12.4-12.5, reflecting its highly alkaline nature. This compound is mostly insoluble in alcohol but slightly soluble in water. It must be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from incompatible substances to ensure safety and product integrity.
FAQ's of Calcium Hydroxide/ Hydrated Lime/ Slaked Lime:
Q: How should Calcium Hydroxide be stored to maintain its effectiveness?
A: Calcium Hydroxide should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. Containers must be tightly closed and protected from moisture to prevent caking and maintain product integrity. When stored properly in unopened packaging, it has a shelf life of up to 12 months from the date of manufacture.
Q: What are the main uses of Calcium Hydroxide across various industries?
A: Calcium Hydroxide finds application as a flocculant in water treatment, a pH regulator, a soil stabilizer in agriculture, and as a key ingredient in mortars, plasters, and whitewash for construction. It is also used as a disinfectant, in chemical manufacturing, and occasionally in the food industry for pH control.
Q: When is Calcium Hydroxide's pH regulating capability particularly beneficial?
A: Its strong alkalinity (pH approximately 12.5 in suspension) is particularly useful in neutralizing acidic waste streams, stabilizing soil pH in agriculture, and ensuring optimal conditions in water purification or chemical synthesis processes.
Q: What safety measures are necessary when handling Calcium Hydroxide?
A: Although non-toxic when handled properly, Calcium Hydroxide is caustic and can cause skin or eye irritation. Protective gloves, goggles, and appropriate clothing are recommended during handling. Avoid inhaling dust and contact with incompatible materials like acids or ammonium salts to prevent hazardous reactions.
Q: Where can Calcium Hydroxide be purchased and in what packaging options?
A: It is available through dealers, distributors, manufacturers, suppliers, and exporters in India. Standard packaging includes 25 kg or 50 kg bags and jumbo bags, but packaging can be customized as per customer requirements to ensure safe and convenient transport and storage.
Q: What is the typical composition and purity of industrial-grade Calcium Hydroxide?
A: Industrial-grade Calcium Hydroxide usually contains 70-75% Calcium Oxide (CaO), less than 1.0% Magnesium Oxide (MgO), under 10 ppm lead, and less than 1.0% chloride by content. Its overall purity ranges from 90% to 95%, ensuring suitability for demanding industrial, agricultural, or food-grade applications.
